1. Background

The Youth Leadership Program (YLP) is an opportunity for members to work with young people, helping them learn speaking and leadership skills they will need to be successful adults. Burdekin Toastmasters have conducted numerous YLP’s throughout the Burdekin since the late 1970′s. It is estimated that Club has assisted over one thousand young people develop their communication and speaking skills in that time.  Burdekin Toastmasters encourages all past YLP participants to come along to a club meeting and relive the memories.

Students from Ayr High who took part in the first YLP conducted in early 1979. Students from the Australian College of Tropical Agriculture who took part in late 1979.
Burdekin Toastmasters have put together a detailed program for those students who participate in the Youth Leadership Scheme.  Each student is issued with a Participant’s Handbook  (right) which guides them through the program.  You can view the introduction to the Participant’s Guide here.
