Officers for the meeting and their duties
- The SERGEANT AT ARMS calls the meeting to order and hands control to the Chairman who opens the meeting.
- The CHAIRMAN conduits the business section of the meeting.
- The TOASTMASTER (from the American and British term for “Master of Ceremonies”) will then conduit what we refer to as the educational part of the meeting. This session usually consists of impromptu, prepared speeches, and evaluations of various types.
- The PARLIAMENTARIAN, usually an experiences member, evaluates the conduit of the business part of the meeting according to Parliamentary Procedure rules.
- The TIMEKEEPER is responsible for timing each segment and then presenting feedback as requested by the Toastmaster. Each segment on the agenda has an allocated time.
- EVALUATORS will provide feedback to each of the speakers. This includes the impromptu and the prepared speakers.
- At the start of the meeting, the GRAMMARIAN presents the work of the night, which all who speak are encouraged to use. The Grammarian also comments on the good and not-so-good use of the English Language.
- The GRUNTMASTER provides feedback on the overall meeting, and to each speaker who has not been evaluated during the session.
Each segment during both the business session and the educational session aims to provide training for members and also feedback to enhance their next presentation either during a Toastmasters meeting or in other aspects of their lives.
